Try racing with Minnie and Dasher against some college ski team girl who only weighs 125lbs. Nothing like getting hit in the head by the laws of physics motivate an action plan. (I'm down 30lbs so far).

Embarrassment is something I dread. It is almost always worse that physical pain for me.

So far your method, the carrot, hasn't been working. So I am taking the carrot off the end of the string on the stick and using it as a bullwhip.

Yes, I will feel wonderful looking pleasing to Ivana, and others, but avoiding being embarrassed by how I do look now is stronger motivation for me personally.

How about a link that will show you what not to do? What if you got some advice from someone whose goal was to get as big and fat as possible? Simple matter to just do the opposite of what he does, right?

That perfection thing is really hard. Yeah, I know all about it. Story of my life, which has also gone nowhere.

I am not sure how this embarrassment thing is supposed to work. I have always tried to avoid that, which worked well when I had embarrassment to avoid. When I have nobody to impress, nobody expecting anything from me, that's when I come to a dead stop.

Seems I only managed to do something when I had someone I wanted to be proud of me, that I didn't want to let down, that I didn't want to disappoint. Doing it for myself never really mattered to me.

If you are the same, then that's what you need to focus on...one person that you care what they think, one person whose opinions matter to you. Focus on that, work hard at not embarrassing yourself.

Maybe someone that hasn't seen you in awhile, who the last time they saw you, you were in great shape. Calculate how long it would take to get to a point where you could face them without being embarrassed. Mark you calendar with a goal and a date to contact them to set up a meeting. Then do what you have to do. Put some pressure on yourself and a reason to do it. Then go meet them with your head held high.

I used that info and the stdlib _winreg module to whip up a "virtualenv_install.py" script that temporarily replaces that key with the virtualenv one, calls subprocess.call() to launch a binary installer, then restores the original entry. Short and sweet. Thanks for the info!

Today I purchased about $140 worth of books from O'Reilly using the discount coupon. The coupon said they wanted me to come back and buy some more books. I did. Mission accomplished.

I'm not sure if you meant to out yourself as O'Reilly. I didn't post your company's name because I thought of this more as a problem with ecommerce and unanticipated use cases than more about some evil plot hatch by O'Reilly. :-) I was also wondering if I was just being too greedy or if my thought process was (somewhat) valid.

I look forward to your ecommerce upgrades. Hopefully my discount will still be available by then. hint hint ;-)

Hello Chaim,

I know you've been communicating with some of our folks, and I wish you'd included the reason for this, which is a simple limitation of our shopping cart. Our cart can only handle one discount at a time, so the print+ebook bundle is a discount. Adding the 40% off offer on top of that isn't possible, at least at this time. It's ironic that I'm writing this, however, from a kick-off meeting for a new ecommerce platform that will solve this and other issues.
